Safety starts long before the first shovel hits the ground. In construction, every task carries risk, but excavation work comes with a unique set of hazards that can change in an instant. At Estes & Sons, our mission is simple: make sure every person on the job site goes home safely to their family at the end of the day.

Safety is one of the most important practices in the construction industry. The main goal at Estes & Sons is to ensure that every person on a job site gets home safely to their family at the end of the day.

Did you know: one square foot of dirt weighs 100 pounds? Simply meaning, the hazard of dirt moving is heavy. OSHA 1926.650 is a subsection of standards set specifically for excavation. The section includes many rules and regulations to follow such as- access/ egress points, hazardous atmospheres, stability of adjacent structures, and the requirements for protective systems. Following the guidelines set forth from OSHA, while also properly educating our team members, has allowed the company to consistently maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

The first piece of advice: take the precaution of educating your company leaders on the hazards that they will be facing every day. The more people who understand the risks, the safer the environment will be.
